OUR LADY'S INN MATERNITY HOME STATE TAX CREDIT
The Missouri State Legislature enacted
a law which went into effect on January 1, 1998, which allows an individual or business who contributes
to a Maternity Home to claim a 50% state income tax credit! Our Lady's Inn has been qualified by the
State of Missouri as a Maternity Home. Gifts of cash, bonds, stocks and other marketable securities qualify. Cash donations (not property or in-kind) made to Our Lady's Inn
now qualify under Missouri law for a Maternity Home state income tax credit.
Our Lady's Inn invites you to assist
us in our mission: Saving lives - one mother, one baby, one family at a time. We encourage you to take
advantage of the Maternity Home Tax Credit (MHTC), which can be claimed in addition to the regular and
state federal deductions on contributions made on, or after January 1, 1998, and shall apply to all tax
years after December 31, 1997.
Tax Credit Questions and Answers. .
.
What is the minimum contribution
for tax credit eligibility?
Contributions to the maternity home
must equal or exceed $100 per taxpayer per tax year. Such amount is cumulative. For example, two contributions
of $50 each would qualify.
What is the maximum contribution limit
per donor for MHTC eligibility?
The maximum qualifying contribution
is $50,000 per taxpayer per tax year, or a credit of $25,000. The credit may not exceed the taxpayer's
state tax liability for the taxable year in which the credit is claimed. However, a credit (or any portion)
that cannot be claimed during the taxable year in which the donation is made, may be carried over to the
next four consecutive taxable years until full credit has been claimed.
Is the MHTC applicable to restricted
and non-restricted contributions?
Yes. Our Lady's Inn welcomes all cash contributions,
as they will enable us to continue serving homeless families. One example of Our Lady's Inn's efforts to secure
its future is the recently established Capital Improvement Trust. Funds in this trust have been designated
for permanent improvements, future expansion, mortgage payments and the purchase of large items such as
computers, furniture and motor vehicles. Our Lady's Inn welcomes your investment in the Capital Improvement Trust.
You can help ensure Our Lady's Inn's future and receive the MHTC!
How does a donor receive a tax credit
for a contribution made to Our Lady's Inn?
A donor, who is interested in obtaining
a credit, should notify Our Lady's Inn. Within thirty (30) days of receipt of the contribution, Our Lady's Inn will send the
MHTC Application Form to the donor. The donor must complete, sign and return all four copies of this
form to Our Lady's Inn for its signature and documentation. Our Lady's Inn will then mail the completed application to the
Missouri Division of Social Services in Jefferson City. Within thirty (30) days of receipt of the application,
the DFS department will notify both the donor and Our Lady's Inn of its decision regarding approval of the application.
